PlanetXpo is proud to present the first annual The Great Bird of the Galaxy Star Trek Celebration honoring Gene Roddenberry and his vision of our future; Star Trek. And what better place to hold this event than Gene Roddenberry's birthplace, El Paso, Texas? The Great Bird of the Galaxy Star Trek Celebration is expected to be the largest annual celebration of Star Trek, with an audience of 10,000 fans at the premiere gathering in November 2003.

The Gene Roddenberry Planetarium in El Paso, Texas, will be exhibiting original paintings of internationally renowned space artist Michael David Ward from November 14 through December 14, 2003.
Michael is renowned for his paintings of the cosmos and commemorative images of entertainment properties, Star Trek, Star Wars, and Lost in Space. His originals and limited edition prints are in the private collections of such notables as Gene and Majel Roddenberry, George Lucas, Leonard Nimoy , Nichelle Nichols and Jonathan Frakes.
To create his paintings, Michael uses many techniques and mediums but his most provocative and compelling method is reverse painting on glass or acrylite. The depth and vibrancy of color he achieves with this method is unmatched by traditional techniques such as painting on canvass or paper. But what makes Michael's paintings stand out doesn't rest on his techniques alone. His view of the cosmos and the world around him instill into his paintings a sense of wonder that transcends a literal reality. His vision is idyllic and intentional. Michael wants to convey to the viewer of his work a magic that is felt on an emotional level.
This is a short film of rare comedy and wit where LA policeman Gene Roddenberry is inspired to create StarTrek, and the filming is now complete! Look for this exclusive title premiering at the convention!
Directed by and starring Tim Russ ('Tuvok' of Voyager). Also, starring Nichelle Nichols, Walter Koenig, Robert Picardo, Ethan Philps, Robert O'Reilly, Richerd Herd and introducing Dan Chase as Gene Roddenberry.
The Estate of Gene Roddenberry does not have any connection nor has authorized, endorsed or has any affliation with this film.
